Overall Impression:
With its fantastic retro-inspired aesthetic, “Magic Wand” is a marvelous homage to the classic disco era. HIP CULTURE has done it yet again, whipping up a highly danceable and terrifically stylish funk-infused dance extravaganza that boasts infectiously catchy grooves and a tremendous sense of fun. “Magic Wand” contains all the traits you would hope a funky disco number to have, great rhythm, sing-along lyrics, and the power to get its listeners moving, and “Magic Wand” double ticks all those boxes gloriously. HIP CULTURE has a clear passion and understanding of the genre and has done a fantastic job of capturing the essence of classic disco/funk with aplomb.
Strongest Point(s):
“Magic Wand” has an abundance of charm, something which can often be overlooked. Songs can be technically well-performed and well-written but can lack that certain sense of charm and fun that helps elevate it further. HIP CULTURE knows this all too well, and continue to make sure that whilst their songs remain to a high standard in terms of production, songwriting, and performances, that sense of fun and the ability to raise a smile on a listener’s face is always there and has become synonymous with their sound and style. The attention to detail is magnificent and the way the track is able to transport its listeners to that oh so classic ’70s disco era is excellent, from that iconic disco beat to the scratchy wah-infused rhythm guitar, there is a level of authenticity here that is thoroughly absorbing.
